The U. S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides
funding for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program,
formerly known as Section 8. The HCV Program subsidizes
rent for income-qualified individuals through the Plymouth/Dearborn
Heights Housing Commission. Under HCV, the amount
the tenant pays for rent and utilities will generally
not exceed 30 percent of income.
The only time
a person can apply for HCV Program is when a waiting
list is open. A Legal Notice will be published in the
Sunday edition of the Observer Newspapers and the Detroit
News/Free Press announcing when the waiting list is
scheduled to open.

The
Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting list
is currently closed.
Section 8
Existing Housing Program is a federally funded program
that provides money to help eligible individuals and
families pay their rent. Families and elderly, handicapped
or disabled individuals are eligible for consideration
for this program if their adjusted incomes do not exceed
federally established income limits for the Wayne County
area.
If you qualify and are accepted as a participant in
the rental assistance program, the amount you pay for
rent and utilities may vary in some instances, but generally
will not exceed 30 percent of your income. Those who
receive Section 8 assistance may stay in their present
home or choose a new place in which to live. Either
way, the dwelling must be decent, safe and sanitary.
The rental assistance program is offered to eligible
families and individuals upon availability of vouchers.
